On his new album "+" there is a song called "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" and it has became one of my favorites. I looked up the music video and was blown away.
The video consists of a single boy standing in an empty room. Once Sheern starts singing the boy is signing the lyrics. And that's it. No big showcase, no bright lights and wind machines. Just this one boy performing the song with his hands.
I think that this video just shows what kind of artist Sheeran really is. He wants his career to be about his music. In the video the only part of Sheeran you saw was his hands on his guitar twice, for about three seconds. Sheeran does this in a lot of his videos. Where he focuses it on the story he's trying to tell in his songs than rather on him.
Sheeran doesn't focus on what he looks like or how he is perceived in the media. He wears jeans and sweatshirt to all of his gigs, and his messy-look hairstyle is just that, messy. When he is on stage it's just him, a microphone and his guitar.
For him it really is all about the music and I feel that more artists these days need to follow suit, because in the end that is what an artist should really be remembered for. Their music, not the antics behind the scenes.
